Recertification By Exam

Recertification by exam allows providers one attempt to successfully complete the National Registry cognitive exam in order to renew their certification. 

For EMT, AEMT, and NRP providers it can be completed starting on April 1, one year prior to your expiration date, and is available until the March 31 deadline for the renewal year.

For EMR providers it can be completed starting on October 1, one year prior to your expiration date, and is available until the September 30 deadline of the renewal year. 

To apply for recertification by exam use the following steps: 

  • Log in to your NREMT account
  • Select the “My Certification” role from the drop-down box
  • Click on “Recert by Exam” on the left-hand side
  • Click on "Application" follow the prompts to complete it
